This Sunday, we gather with Rev. Diane Rollert to begin again for the New Year by gently letting go of all that has weighed us down in the past year.

Through song and reflection indoors, we’ll create space for renewal and intention. We’ll then conclude our service outdoors with a brief, symbolic ritual—sharing a moment of releasing our burdens from 2025 and letting them go up in smoke.

Please dress warmly for this final portion of the service.

The Reverend Diane Rollert served the Unitarian Church of Montreal for 18 years before retiring from full-time parish ministry a year ago. She continues to serve our national and international movements, working with ministerial students as the Canadian liaison to the Ministerial Formation Network, and as the UUA ambassador to the European Unitarian Universalists. She is co-founder of Coalition Inclusion Québec. A mother and grandmother, Rev. Diane lives in the Eastern Townships with her husband and two dogs.

Ce dimanche, nous nous rassemblons avec la révérende Diane Rollert pour recommencer la nouvelle année en laissant aller, avec douceur, tout ce qui nous a alourdis au cours de la dernière année.

À travers des chants et une réflexion à l’intérieur, nous créerons un espace de renouveau et d’intention. Nous conclurons ensuite le service à l’extérieur par un bref rituel symbolique — un moment pour libérer nos fardeaux de 2025 et les laisser s’élever en fumée.

An evening of food and fellowship at UU Estrie

As the year draws to a close, we invite you to gather for our final activity of 2025—a simple, joyful evening of shared food, laughter, and connection.

In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, we affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person and the importance of beloved community. Coming together around a table—sharing stories, nourishment, and companionship—is one of the most human ways we live those values. In a busy and often fragmented world, choosing to be together is an act of care and hope.

All are welcome. Invite a friend, bring your family, or come just as you are.

What’s on the menu:
• A festive turkey dinner
• Vegetarian and vegan options available

Une soirée conviviale autour d’un bon repas à l’église unitarienne universaliste d’Estrie

Alors que l’année touche à sa fin, nous vous invitons à nous rejoindre pour notre dernière activité de 2025 : une soirée simple et joyeuse de partage, de rires et de convivialité.

Dans la tradition unitarienne universaliste, nous affirmons la valeur et la dignité intrinsèques de chaque personne, ainsi que l’importance d’une communauté unie et bienveillante. Se réunir autour d’une table, partager des histoires, un repas et de la compagnie, est l’une des manières les plus humaines de vivre ces valeurs. Dans un monde agité et souvent fragmenté, choisir d’être ensemble est un acte de solidarité et d’espoir.

Do the Bible and Biology provide a solid foundation to oppose transgender rights as some religious and political leaders in the USA suggest?

Randy Galbraith is a software engineer with a life long interest in philosophy and religion. He grew up in the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith but now holds a secular humanist perspective on the Bible and other sacred texts. Randy has been a Unitarian Universalist since 2014.

A contemplative service inspired by Thích Nhất Hạnh’s teaching on seeing the Buddha within each person. Together we explore how mindfulness, presence, and compassion allow the flower of our shared humanity to bloom.

As November leans toward December and the world outside grows quieter, we’ll turn to the Transcendentalists, Emerson, Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller, for guidance on the inner life. Together we’ll explore how their vision of intuition, nature, and the “Over-Soul” still speaks to our Unitarian Universalist hearts today, especially in this reflective, late-autumn season. This service will weave gentle humor, story, and contemplation, inviting us to listen for the quiet wisdom within and around us as we move into winter.

Amy Panetta, MA has served as Lay Chaplain and Lay Service Leader at UU Estrie and is a trained music educator, ethnomusicologist, family historian, and author. As a 25-year Unitarian Universalist, Amy brings an open and curious spirit to her work, nurturing peace, compassion, and connection through a deep reverence for nature, culture, and community.

Alors que novembre cède la place à décembre et que le monde extérieur s’apaise, nous nous tournerons vers les transcendantalistes, Emerson, Thoreau et Margaret Fuller, pour trouver des réponses à nos questions intérieures. Ensemble, nous explorerons comment leur vision de l’intuition, de la nature et de l’Âme universelle résonne encore aujourd’hui en nous, unitariens universalistes, particulièrement en cette fin d’automne propice à la réflexion. Ce temps de recueillement mêlera humour, récits et contemplation, nous invitant à écouter la sagesse silencieuse qui nous habite et nous entoure à l’approche de l’hiver.

Amy Panetta, MA, a été aumônière laïque et responsable des services laïques à l’église unitarienne universaliste d’Estrie. Elle est également pédagogue musicale, ethnomusicologue, généalogiste et auteure. Membre de l’Église unitarienne universaliste depuis 25 ans, Amy aborde son travail avec ouverture d’esprit et curiosité, cultivant la paix, la compassion et le lien social grâce à un profond respect pour la nature, la culture et la communauté.

Born in Montreal and educated in Sherbrooke, Colonel Dutil served more than 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including deployments with the United Nations in Cyprus, major domestic operations such as the 1998 ice storm, and interagency leadership roles following 9/11. His career spans international missions, emergency management, civil-military coordination, and national security planning. After commanding The Sherbrooke Hussars in the Reserve Force, he continued to advise governments and global organisations in resilience, crisis response, and humanitarian operations. Now based in Sherbrooke, he remains active in veterans’ circles as Second Vice-President of the Sherbrooke Royal Canadian Legion.

Throughout his career, Bob Dylan’s songs have been suffused with Biblical imagery. Based on the three spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 13:13, Stuart will explore this theme and illustrate it with samples from Bob’s albums and live performances.

Graduated from Glasgow, Stirling and McGill universities, Dr. Stuart J. McKelvie taught psychology and conducted research at Bishop’s University from 1972 until 2013.

Stuart likes sport, exercise, photography, reading, haikus and limericks but, since the early 1960s, he has avidly listened to, followed and read about Bob Dylan. Following Dylan’s 2016 award of the Nobel Prize in Literature, he has given numerous presentations about Bob’s work.

The Book of Enoch is an ancient text that describes events said to take place before the Great Flood. Enoch was the father of Methuselah and the great-grandfather of Noah. He is mentioned only briefly in Genesis: “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.” Join Melanie McCrea this Sunday for this fascinating exploration!
